Pugh: Fans expect a performance

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Marc Pugh understands that the Cherries squad are under pressure to perform this season.

After spending a lot of money on the squad during the second half of the season last term, manager Paul Groves has made a further eight signings over the course of the summer.

Many of Groves new signings are unfortunately unavailable going into the League One opener at Portsmouth, but Pugh still hopes the Cherries can start the campaign with a win.

Portsmouth have been boosted following the signing of ten new players since their League Cup defeat to Plymouth on Tuesday.

The deals are still subject to approval by the football league so uncertainty remains over how the Portsmouth team will line up.

Pugh told afcb.co.uk...

"It`s important to know the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition but we`ve got to concentrate on our own performance. We are going to try and play our game, and hopefully we can start the league season with a win,"

"It`s a massive game. They`ve had a lot of problems and it`s been tough for them, but we`ve got to approach it like any other game. There should be a great atmosphere and we are really looking forward it.

"There`s a lot expected of us this year. We`ve signed a lot of good players, we`ve got good financial backing and the fans are going to expect a performance and hopefully we can give them something to shout about."

This game won't be a pushover - Pompey, both players and supporters will be fired up for the game and there's going to quite an atmosphere - not one for the "faint hearted". If we go there with a defensive/negetive attitude we could come unstuck. This is going to be a test of Groves approach to the game.

Hmm im not too upbeat about this game, just seen the squad and we have not got McQuoid so i am struggling to see where the goals will come from.

Amazing to think that we spent most of our money on players to get us goals yet nothing I feel has changed.
