AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves refused to make any excuses for his sides first round exit from the League Cup.
League Two side Oxford United completed the Cup upset with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory after 120 minutes of football ended goalless.
The Cherries have had problems with injuries throughout the summer and Paul Groves went ahead with the fixture without Steve Cook, Adam Barrett, Charlie Sheringham, Wes Fogden, Tommy Elphick, Frank Demouge, Shaun MacDonald, Josh McQuoid, Stephen Purches, Mark Molesley, Darryl Flahavan, Richard Hughes, Jonathan Meades and Eunan O'Kane involved in the match day squad.
While Fletch who was named amongst the substitutes, had been struggling through pre-season with a dead leg and had only had one training session before the game.
Groves told afcb.co.uk...
"Fletch trained for one day and we`ve got three other strikers out, and that would have an impact on anybody. That`s something we will have to deal with at different times this season, so I won`t make any excuses,"
"I thought at that end of the pitch we lacked a cutting edge or that final pass, and at the start of the season sometimes that work takes a little bit of time to get right."
