Jalal: It will be the managers` decision

AFC Bournemouth 'keeper Shwan Jalal is hopeful that he has done enough to displace Darryl Flahavan and win back the Cherries number one shirt.

Twelve months ago, Shwan Jalal lost his place as the Cherries first choice goalkeeper.

After a close pre-season, former manager Lee Bradbury opted to stick with Darryl Flahavan who he had signed during that summer following uncertainty regarding Jalal's future.

Jalal was in the middle of a contract dispute and was struggling with a back injury which he had played with throughout the Cherries League One Play-Offs campaign.

During the season Flahavan impressed in goal, especially during the Cherries purple patch which saw the side climb from the relegation places to towards the play-off spots.

During this period Jalal had been told he could leave Dean Court, however after a few months Jalal signed a new contract extension and underwent surgery to cure a herniated disc.

He regained match fitness in time to play the last two games of the Cherries 2011/12 League One campaign.

After a full pre-season at full fitness, Jalal now believes he is ready to take the shirt if given the nod by new manager Paul Groves.

Jalal told afcb.co.uk...

"It will be a tough call. It will be the managers` decision, but I feel I have come back fighting fit and I`m eager to get the shirt.

'Flavs` is a great goalkeeper and had a great season last time out, and it is completely down to the manager now. I feel I have proved myself in pre-season and I`m ready if I get the nod."

Jalal seems more safe but Flahavan has proved he can pull out some outstanding saves so don't care who's in goal.

Put the dwarf on the bench!

It depends on how you classify safe - last season Jalal played in 5 games and had two howlers where the oppostion scored from him doing his superman impression and missing the ball. Flahavan made two howlers over the rest of the season.

But then how many howlers has Jalal made over the past how ever many seasons he's been with us?

Shwan looks fitter and better than ever right now. We are lucky to have two decent keepers but Jalal is bigger and better IMO...

Jalal was great in the promotion year but fell apart in the play off year. Loads of howlers. Dropped the ball in his own net against the Scummers, failed superman against Yeovil etc and couldnt catch to save his life. No keepers are perfect but for 2/3rds of that season he was poor. I hope if he is selected he discovers the form of promotion season but will remain concerned.

I say safe because of corners, crosses & set-pieces. Flahavans height is only effected when it comes to those situations from what I've seen. Both I'm aware of make mistakes but so far Jalal looks a lot better from his op so I would give him a run & see how things pan out. Both keepers I believe are two of the best in the league.

If your gonna play a 5ft 11in goalkeeper, he better be something very special. People say height doesn't matter, but it clearly does. If Jalal is fit and firing, play him. To all those who say he made howlers here and there, so what? This is football, you are only as good as your last game. In goal, all your mistakes are exposed for all to see. All keepers make mistakes, get a bit of perspective.

For me it Jalal for no1. The games that he had the howlers in where when he had his back injury.Iif this is now resolved he is are best keeper. I'm sorry never feel cofident on one on one's and croses and corners with flahavan in goal.
