Hughes: Easy decision to return to Bournemouth

Former Portsmouth midfielder Richard Hughes has returned to AFC Bournemouth after ten years away from Dean Court.

The 33 year old joined Pompey from the Cherries in June 2002, but left Fratton Park 12 months ago following a contract dispute.

The midfielder hasn't played a competitive game of football since December 2010 and admits that it will take him time to return to full match fitness, but after being offered a return to the game by Cherries manager Paul Groves, Hughes is looking forward to returning to training.

Hughes previously worked with Groves at Portsmouth and Grimsby.

Hughes told the Daily Echo...

"It was an easy decision. I spoke to the manager about his vision for the club and want to be part of the project because it is really exciting.

"I know him well, I know his philosophies on the game and I know what he is like as a manager. I always wanted to play again but I wanted to play for the right person. He is a very honest person and a deep thinker. Everything he does is calculated and structured...'

'...I don`t know how long it will take for me to get fully fit but I have already started the hard work and am hoping to join in with the development squad on Friday. My main priorities are to work hard and stay clear of injury...'

...easy decision...yeh the restaurant trade is slow and business could be better, and I need a regular income....hope you're worth the money Richard. It worked with Anderton so who knows, as Hughes has Premier League experience to add to the party...
Garbo
Hughes. Absolute legend. A great man. He will always put in a decent shift and if he can stay fit you have a quality midfielder. He'll make a great coach too.
