Mitchell: Getting close with two deals

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has revealed that the Cherries are close to completing deals on two new signings.

Before the Cherries squad flew out to their Spanish training camp this week, AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves has been quite open over his hopes to sign a new left back to offer competition for Charlie Daniels.

With Warren Cummings, Scott Malone and Paddy Hester all leaving Dean Court over the summer, Daniels is now the only recognised left sided full back in the squad.

With former captain Shaun Cooper rejecting a new contract offer to stay with the Cherries Groves has also been linked with signing a new central midfielder.

On Tuesday evening Daily Echo reporter Neill Perrett wrote on Twitter...

"@neilperrettecho: #afcb could be ready to join the race to sign #sufc midfielder Lee Williamson. The player has been offered fresh terms by Blades."

However Mitchell has ruled out a Cherries move, with Williamson considering a new offer from Sheffield United, while Championship clubs Barnsley and Burnley are also rumoured to be interested.

Meanwhile Torquay have accepted a bid from a mystery League One club for midfielder Eunan O'Kane, O'Kane has a £175,000 release clause at Torquay and was previously a target for Sean O'Driscoll at Crawley Town and has been scouted by Burnley manager Eddie Howe.

Rumours suggest that the Cherries or Coventry could be the 'mystery' club.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

"We are getting very close with two deals and one of them has been agreed verbally. Work is in progress and we are hoping, by the end of the week, to have two tied up. We would like to think we would get them finalised on Friday if we could arrange everything."
