Cherries announce new stadium deal

AFC Bournemouth have agreed a new stadium sponsorship deal for the naming rights of Dean Court.

Since the new stadium was opened in 2001, Dean Court has had various name changes. From the Fitness First Stadium, to the Classic Eyes Stadium, to the Seward Stadium and now following a new two year agreement the Goldsands Stadium.

The latest deal is worth around £50,000 a year according to BBC Radio Solent, while their Twitter page reported that...

"@solentsport: #AFCB's new stadium sponsor Goldsands are not yet operating as a company, and are not listed at Companies House"

"@solentsport: #AFCB's new stadium sponsors Goldsands are based at a property in Surrey, shared by a company who include petrochemicals in their portfolio"

Last month The Cherries received a £6million loan from Wintel Petrochemicals Ltd, a company where AFC Bournemouth co-owner Maxim Demin is listed as a director.

The Cherries official press release announcing the deal described Goldsands Management as a 'newly formed London based private concierge service'.

Managing director of Goldsands Management, John O'Neill said, 'We are absolutely thrilled to secure this deal with one of the most up and coming professional football teams in the country.

'As a company that offers bespoke life tailoring for premium members - sports men and woman in particular - this is the perfect club, and perfect location for us to invest.

'We are very excited about the seasons ahead, and anticipate with vigour the prospect of working with an ambitious outfit who are looking for success.'

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell said, 'We are very pleased to be able to announce this positive step for the club.

'Goldsands Management are a fledgling business with big ambitions and they have grasped the opportunity for some national exposure and great publicity by linking with the Cherries.

'We are a club on the up, and Goldsands Management want to be associated with that. That is a ringing endorsement for this club, and we look forward to working closely with them for the next two seasons and beyond.'

Names come and go - but for most of us it will always be Dean Court!

That last paragraph is such nonsense. We all know it's one of Demin's companies, they didn't "choose" us. It's a good deal for us, though I prefer the name Dean Court, but Mitchell just has to give it the spin. Sounds like the director of goldsands has made a statement while Max dangles his favourite teddybear over the edge of the west cliff too. Why not be honest about it?!

At the end of the day, I think that stadium naming rights are a sensible thing for a club to rent out like this - and if the name has a certain relevance, then so much the better for all concerned. Yes it will always be Dean Court to us - but if an alliance with Goldsands puts dosh in our coffers (of course that's circular, Demin is paying Demin) and the sponsorship works for Goldsands, then everyone's a winner. Certainly attracting the attention of a few other high net worth individuals is not a bad thing but I'm not sure every Oligarch and Sheikh is really going to share Maxim's 'dream'.....
