Hard: Sheringham has had a setback

AFC Bournemouth striker Charlie Sheringham has suffered a set back in his rehabilitation from a broken foot.

Sheringham sustained a foot injury scoring against Brentford on Boxing Day 2011. The initial x-ray was unclear but a later MRI scan revealed a fracture to the navicular.

In January he had an operation to insert two screws in to fix the bone and he spent three months in a protective boot.

In May he had hoped that his recovery was on course for him to return to full training during pre-season, however when he stopped wearing the protective air boot he began to feel discomfort in one of his toes during light jogging.

To give the toe time to settle, Sheringham eased off on impact work and just continued light exercises.

However whilst the problem with his toe has now cleared, he is now experiencing discomfort in his heel and while the use of a specialised anti-gravity treadmill, will help with his rehab, he will go and have a biomechanical assessment review regarding his heel.

AFC Bournemouth physio Steve Hard told the Daily Echo...

"When we have tried to run him, he has experienced a few aches. He had a problem with one of his toes in May and that has cleared.

"Now he is getting a bit of pain in his heel. We had him re-scanned yesterday and the bone in his foot has fully healed and is fine. It is just a small irritation with his heel.

"He saw someone last week for a biomechanical assessment and is going to see them again for a review. It is a bit of a setback because we wanted to try to push him on. These things happen when players have been out for so long."

I suppose we can afford to wait. I reacon when he is fit & ready he could be a very good player from the impact he made last season in his short time on the pitch.
