Groves: Result is not important

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves takes his squad out to Spain today (Friday) for a five day training session following the Cherries demolition of New Milton on Wednesday.

The Cherries kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 13-0 win over the Wessex League side and whilst ahead of pre-season Paul Groves insisted that the results from the friendlies were not important, he believes the manner of the victory could act as a confidence booster.

Both Matt Tubbs and Marc Pugh scored hat-tricks, while Lewis Grabban and Wes Thomas both scored twice, Josh McQuoid, Charlie Daniels and Joe Partington rounded off the scoring.

A 22 man squad will now enjoy a five day training session in southern Spain before returning for the Cherries next fixture against Poole Town on the 27th July.

Groves told afcb.co.uk...

"We are looking for an understanding of how we want to play, and the players have shown in a limited amount of time that we have had to work with them that they have grasped the ideas. What was pleasing was that they finished off their work."

"Each day has increased in terms of volume and intensity, and it was pleasing that they looked reasonably fresh and the game served the purpose in respect of giving them enough of a breather prior to the game to be able to come in fresh."

"The result is not important in these games, but scoring that number of goals does bring about confidence. What was pleasing was the movement to bring about those opportunities and the finishing overall was quite good and they can be pleased with that."
