Flahavan: We will be ready

AFC Bournemouth 'keeper Darryl Flahavan is optimistic about the new League One campaign.

The veteran goalkeeper who will compete with Shwan Jalal for the number one shirt, believes that the Cherries now possess the fire power up front to make a challenge on the league.

Last season despite finishing eleventh, the Cherries had actually improved their defensive record in comparison to the season before when they finished sixth and made it into the League One play-offs.

During the 2011/12 season AFC Bournemouth conceded 52 times in comparison to the 2010/11 season where the Cherries conceded 54 times. However during the play-offs campaign the Cherries scored 75 goals, 27 more than the Cherries could score last season.

With the additions of Frank Demouge, Lewis Grabban and Josh McQuoid, Flahavan believes that problem has now been addressed and is looking forward to kicking off the new campaign away to Portsmouth.

Flahavan told afcb.co.uk...

'Last season showed that if we had scored more goals then we'd have been right up there, I think we had a better defensive record than the season before when we reached the play-offs.

'We have some great attacking options so I think we can put that right and I'm optimistic about the season ahead...'

'...Like most teams that come down from the Championship, they (Portsmouth) will be a side that everyone will want to beat. It will be a tough game against them, but we will be ready.'
