Groves: We need everyone fighting fit

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves hopes that a good pre-season schedule will help to prevent injuries throughout the season.

The Cherries squad returned for the first day of pre-season training on Wednesday at Canford School and will spend the next week working through various fitness routines and training before the opening pre-season fixture against New Milton on Wednesday 18th July.

Groves will then select a 22 man squad who will fly out for a short training camp in Spain.

The squad will travel to San Roque in southern Spain on Friday 20th July, and return two days ahead of their second friendly of the summer against Poole on Friday 27th July.

Groves told the Daily Echo...

'...We recognise that it is around five-and-a-half weeks until the start of the season so we don`t need to be fit inside one week. That needs to be gradual.

"We need to make sure that we enter the start of the season with everyone fighting fit and with competition for places.

"If they get through pre-season virtually injury free, that gives them a good base to then move through the season without incurring too many injuries...'
