AFC Bournemouth defender Adam Barrett has declared that he will work 'extremely hard' during pre-season to prove himself to new management duo Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks.
Barrett joined the Cherries last summer from Championship side Crystal Palace and was installed as team captain by former manager Lee Bradbury.
The 32 year old was a regular part of the team until around December, when he struggled with hamstring injuries and he hasn't played a game since the 2-1 win over Notts County in January.
Barrett was fit towards the end of the season, but during Paul Groves eight games in charge, he didn't feature.
With the possible future return of Miles Addison on a permanent basis, Barrett knows that not only does he have a battle to keep hold of the captains armband next season, but he also has a battle to regain his place in the starting line-up.
Barrett told the Daily Echo...
"I have played enough games and know what I can do. I am sure Paul and Shaun know what I can do as well.
"I will get my head down and work extremely hard during pre-season. I will give it everything and, hopefully, the manager will like that and we can go from there...
'...I think I have the respect of the dressing room and have the experience. I want to do well for myself and for the club. The manager will put in place who he feels is best for the role. If it is me, I would be delighted to continue. If it is not, I will get behind the new captain and get on with it...'
