Groves: We don't want to break wage structure

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves has insisted that the Cherries do still keep to a wage structure.

Over the past twelve months the Cherries squad has changed dramatically.

Following the Cherries play-off defeat to Huddersfield on penalties at the end of the 2010/11 season most of the squad have moved on to different sides with many now playing in the Championship.

Former manager Lee Bradbury began the re-build of the squad and at the start of last season the wage budget reportedly had a cap of around £1,500 a week.

But since the involvement of Russian co-owner Maxim Demin that figure has risen sharply to over £4,000 a week, with many of the latest signings earning far more than their team mates.

The Daily Echo have reported that there have been rumours that this has led to divisions amongst the squad, but Groves insists that the players are the ones who earn their deals.

Groves told the Daily Echo...

'...I think in any club there is a hierarchy in terms of pay structures and what players command and that comes from the level of strength they have when it comes to sitting down and negotiating...'

'...When we have sat down and negotiated with players, we have stressed that there is a wage structure in place and we don`t want to break it...'

"...When you negotiate a contract, invariably it is on the back of what you have produced on the pitch and so therein lies your position to negotiate. Every player will have his worth.
