Groves: Club captaincy to be decided

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves will select his team captain towards the end of the Cherries pre-season schedule.

The Cherries squad will enjoy a Spanish training camp ahead of a number of friendlies against non-league sides, as well as Championship and Premier League opposition.

Groves will take a 22 man squad over to San Roque in southern Spain on Wednesday 18th July and return two days before the Cherries second pre-season friendly against Poole Town.

Contenders to take the armband could be defender Adam Barrett, who was captain under former manager Lee Bradbury or Darryl Flahavan who was selected as captain in Barrett's absence, however Shaun Cooper who ended last season as captain has left the club after he rejected a new contract offer.

Potential new signing Miles Addison could also be in contention if his transfer from Derby is concluded as previously reported.

Groves told the Daily Echo...

'...There are a number of candidates and when it comes to choosing, we will look at it closely...'

'...In pre-season, you use the games for preparation to make sure everything is covered and put in place for the beginning of the season.

"Captaincy and all sorts of different football scenarios will be looked at during those games."
