Pugh rejects Cherries deal

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Marc Pugh has rejected a contract extension with the Cherries.

The news is likely to see the end of Marc Pugh's career at Dean Court as AFC Bournemouth are likely to attempt to sell the popular midfielder before his contract expires in 12 months time.

Pugh could potentially walk away from Dean Court on a free transfer this time next year, which is why the Cherries had been so keen to agree a new deal before the start of the new season.

Talks over a new contract have been ongoing since Pugh was offered an improved three and a half year contract at the beginning of December.

Pugh stated from the outset that he was in 'no major rush' to agree a new deal and would discuss it again over the summer.

A number of Championship sides have been linked with Pugh, including Cardiff, Burnley and Derby and Groves has revealed he is willing to entertain realistic offers for him.

Groves told afcb.co.uk...

'I had a long conversation with Marc who was honest and upfront about his decision, He told us he wants to keep his options open at this stage in his career and he is perfectly entitled to do that...

'...We are in a situation now where Marc could leave in a years time for absolutely nothing, so it would make sense for us to listen to offers. That said, any bid would have to be of significant value to the club for us to even entertain the idea of letting him go.

'We haven't received any formal offers yet for Marc but we are sure there are a number of clubs who have him on their radar.'

Fair enough. Time to buy a new Left Winger!

Can't afford to let him go for nothing in my opinion, hopefully we can get a decent price and a good replacement
afcblover
Well I'm not happy if he leaves but I my opinion wont change. I want to thank him for staying another year despite loosing in the play offs.

I wont be too disappointed if Marc leaves the club, there are better players out there who can do a better job thna Marc. I'd like to see someone who will actually get a ball into the box rather than mess around with it until the chance has gone etc.... Dont get me wrong, Marc is an important player for us, him leaving has been coming, I;d rather lose him now for some money than lose him in 2013 for nothing. Somebody call EH...

^ Other than when you say he losses the ball when he does his tricks I do agree. Tbh I think him leaving may be our gain coz he was half the player last season then he was under Howe & wiggins behind him. I'm confident that we can find a good replacement but Ritchie is proberly out of the equation since his price tag is so hign but maybe we could just shift Mcdermott across and get Robinson back or get Wordworth. Hey maybe Mqioud could play there: who knows?
Will-AFCB
he chose us over some other more attractive clubs when he signed so he's obviosuly a smart pragmatic person - not just blinded by the big pay offer or the glitzy stadiums. If you were a smart pragmatic person and you now had superior clubs in higher divisions with non psychotic owners - showing an interest. You'd talk to them first and see what's on offer. I'm afraid that Mark Pugh, like Shwan Jalal understood where the power really lies and played the right game for their careers when Mitchell was pawning the team. Fair play to him, I hope he stays, great player but wish him the best regardless.

It makes me laugh a little every time a player leaves or is going to leave there are comments like we have better and there's better out there. Does anyone think any of our players are worth keeping???

^ cows-go-moo, besides offering him about 12 grand a week, what do you propose we do? Even then he would probably still turn it down simply because he doesn't want to play in league 1 anymore. The point we are trying to make is that no player is bigger than the club, in addition to just trying to make light of the situation, knowing that a lot of people are going to be poo-pooing our promotion chances now. And this is a really amicable and respectful decision from Pugh. He never handed in a transfer request, even when the rest of the team was sold. He has always given 100% and fully deserves to play in the championship next season, although I'm sure he would happilly play out the remainder of his contract still giving 100%. Although that would be a bad deal for the club as he would leave for £0.

^ I agree with what you are saying. My point was directed at the stupid comments reasoning why we don't want him and that he's not that good anyway etc. I think we should sell him now and get some cash for him, that said it does not mean I want him to leave nor am I going to say he is $hit in anyway slagging of what he has done for us.....
cows-go-moo
^ I hope u wernt aiming that at me ;:l
Will-AFCB
^^and he hasn't been as good as the early days and he does not always deliver the ball as quickly as he could or should. That said, he was still our best player last year, was a great ambassador for our club and will be missed. There are other plyaers out there and we've signed some recently - Mcquoid and Grabban can play wide and if Mcdermott is on his game, so can he. Thanks Marc. You've played and handled yourself very well. I WILL miss you but wish you all the best too. Let's hope we can get a decent valuation on him too...
