Groves: Cooper will speak to us when he is ready

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves has revealed that contract negotiations with Shaun Cooper are set to continue.

It had previously been reported that Cooper was contracted to the Cherries until the summer of 2013, when the Daily Echo reported in February 2011 that he had signed a new two and a half year contract, shortly after former manager Lee Bradbury had taken over as boss following Eddie Howe's departure to Burnley.

But part of that original contract was a 12 month option, if triggered by 31st March.

Neither the Cherries nor Cooper triggered the option, so Cooper and the club have opened fresh contract talks with his current deal set to expire on Saturday.

Cooper has previously revealed that the new contract offer is less than what he had previously been offered and if a new deal cannot be agreed he will be entitled to leave the club on a free transfer.

Groves told the Daily Echo...

'...We have made an offer and Shaun is deliberating over it and he will speak to us in due course when he is ready...'

'...Like anything, both parties have to agree to that contract and that is where we are at this moment in time."

Hope we keep Coops. Given the right players around him he can run games - Huddersfield away last year springs to mind...he was awesome that day.
