Mitchell: We can achieve great things

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell believes the club can achieve 'great things' over the next few years.

Mitchell celebrates three years as chairman at Dean Court this week and has stated his ambitions for the club over the next three years.

Alongside co-owner Maxim Demin, Mitchell has targeted establishing the Cherries in the Championship and still aims to buy-back Dean Court and seeing it sold out every week.

Mitchell told afcb.co.uk...

'It would be a success if we could establish ourselves in the Championship. It would exceed everybody's expectations but it's not unrealistic if we can build the club the way we are planning to, the club is in a very sound position. The facilities are improving every day and we have ironed out almost every problem the club had.

'I've got a new partner on board, and I think he takes more enjoyment from the club than he does anything else in his life. I think we can achieve great things...'

'...Where would I like to see us in three years' time? I would like to see us getting gates of 10,000 every week and I think that would speak for itself. It's not entirely down to me, but I would like to think if I get my way, we are not too far away from that.'

It's only successon the field that will bring back the missing thousands, good facilities are fine, but there are many of us who would be happy to be watching a great team in the old Dean Court, decrepit as is was. There too are many who dislike sitting to watch games, I know many who , once regulars , no longer go because they prefered the freedom of terraces - the ability to move around and meet up with old friends and to be able to go to a match spontaneously should the opportunity arise at the last minute and still being able to meet up with mates. In planning for the fourth stand , safe terracing should be considered - it would add to the gate and much improve the atmosphere..

...words come easy, it'll be actions we will be looking for and only success ON the pitch will inspre fans to be part of it...this looks like the last gamble from the club...heavy investment in quality players...the pressure will be on PG to deliver from the off....I sincerely hope that our gamble pays off and we are not left counting the costs of failure?...agree with SOC about terracing that would be a boost to those who prefer the open freedom of watching football and not being squashed in next to some goon or idiot to watch the game....great opportunity to show the fans that you really do listen to them Eddie....

^^ SOC, Terracing of any description is out of the question. The ground is already over the maximum capacity allowed before terracing is prohibited. Basically, you cant have a large gate AND have terracing, because over a certain capacity terracing is not allowed. That is why many conference and league 2 teams have to remove all of their terracing and replace them with seats when they are promoted.

...didn't know that Chris....oh well that ends that argument then!
Garbo
^ stupid I know, because often when you replace terracing with seats you effectively half the capacity anyway! And my favorite away-days are when we are crammed into terraces! But I can see the pro's: There is always the Safety argument due to numerous incidents and having seats instead of terraces has made a day at the football more appealing to families, with many chaps finding it easier to bring their kids and wives/girlfriends along.
chris skyline
The terracing 'capacity' argument is incorrect. Can't go into details here but it is wrong!

^^ enlighten me!
chris skyline
i'm pretty sure you are not allowed to use terracing in the championship and premiership, may be wrong but I thought all teams with terracing that go up either have to not use the stand or place seating on top of it.
afcblover
Scunthorpe had terracing in the championship, but I was pretty sure that was because their capacity was small enough. Terracing is totally prohibited in the premier league, not due to FA regulations but due to government regulations put in place after the Taylor report.
chris skyline
Clubs have three years in the top two divisions before they must convert all terracing into seats. So, what was safe at Peterborough for years is now deemed unacceptable. A stupid rule.
robtrent
Dont know if its because I'm of a younger generation that never spent any time on the terraces, but I would DEFINATELY rather a sch*****y new south stand with a comfy seats and a hotel under it than a terrace...

What exactly is being in a 'sound position?' If it wasn't for Max Demin's involvement we would be up the creek without a paddle. The 2010 Accounts aren't exactly clever reading on trading alone.

There is a rethink going on at the moment and a strong move to allow terracing - it's as safe as seating when properly monitored. The German League - the best in the World - particularly for supporters - much cheaper than the Premiership, many more local players ( restrictions on imported players) and terraces is the example we should be following in this Country , great atmosphere in their Grounds.
squareoldcodger
Paul is correct of course the last Accounts published for 2011 were dreadful - the Club was insolvent and as a result the sale of the team and the loss of a great Manager could not be avoided. The 2012 Accounts are due out next month and with income down and expenditure up I would be astonished if they are not equally poor, with a huge increase in borrowing from Mr Demin..
squareoldcodger
Smoke and mirrors eh?
