Francis: Couldn't have dreamed of a better start

AFC Bournemouth right back Simon Francis is looking forward to the new season after the fixture list was announced on Monday morning.

Paul Groves squad start the new League One season with a trip to Fratton Park to face south coast neighbours Portsmouth.

The Cherries haven't visited Fratton Park for a league fixture since March 1990 when Portsmouth beat AFC Bournemouth 2-1.

The Cherries then face promotion hopefuls Preston, Sheffield United and the team from stadium:mk during the opening weeks of the season.

Francis told afcb.co.uk...

'It's a massive one for the club, We couldn't have dreamed of a better start - to go away and play our local rivals. It will be a big day for the fans and hopefully we can put on a performance.'

'It's always a busy first month of the season, but to play the teams who are really going to be pushing next season will stand us in good stead and hopefully make us stand out,'
