Mitchell: A feather in our cap

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell believes the imminent arrival of an eighth striker to Dean Court will be a big addition to the Cherries squad.

Mitchell confirmed on Friday that AFC Bournemouth had agreed personal terms with a new striker and thought the deal would be concluded over the next few days.

The Cherries are yet to agree terms with the forwards current club, which is reportedly a foreign based club.

Rumours had suggested that Cherries manager Paul Groves had hoped to bring former loanee James Keene back to England, but Mitchell confirmed the former Portsmouth striker was not the player the Cherries have agreed terms with.

The unnamed player will compete with Wesley Thomas, Matt Tubbs, Josh McQuoid, Lewis Grabban, Charlie Sheringham, Jayden Stockley and Steve Fletcher in Paul Groves squad next season if the deal is completed next week.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

'..."If we are going to be successful, we are going to need the best from all the players and that includes all the forwards. We don`t want to overcook the goose but I don`t think we are."

'We think he will add a great deal of value to our existing strike-force, He is someone who had not been on the radar until recently and, if it goes through, we will have done very well.

"It will be a feather in our cap."

Strikers don't guarantee goals, you need a well balanced team for that. Still think that a playmaker, a ball winner, cover for the left back and central defence a higher priority. Nor can you keep eight strikers match fit, they need regular competitive games for that and we don't even have a Reserve Team now.

^ ^ ^ fletch isnt going to play much at all, stockley has to be managed as stated last week so wont play a huge part, sheringham is injured and is still a coming to terms with league football, and tubbs & thomas were struggling for form at the end of last year, grabban and thomas can (& probably will) play a fair bit out wide as well, so another promising young striker couldnt hurt at all i wouldn't have thought?!!!!!! true we need strengthening in depth in other areas as well but there is a long way to go till the transfer window closes and im sure we will yet, besides isn't it nice to have too many strikers for a change???
