'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mitchell: Redknapp return not unrealistic

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell believes that former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp could return to Dean Court in some capacity.

But just days after his surprise departure from White Hart Lane, Mitchell has ruled out the possibility of Redknapp returning to the Cherries as manager.

While he has also stated that his son Tom Mitchell is AFC Bournemouth's Director Of Football, leaving Redknapp with a possible consultancy role on the Cherries board.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

'...Managerial-wise, it is not an option and I don`t think Harry would do that anywhere (replace someone already in a position). But if he ever wanted to come by and talk football, give advice and perhaps join the board, his experience would be invaluable."

"Tom is director of football. He is very inexperienced compared with Harry but, nevertheless, he is a compatible person and very much like Harry. I am sure Tom could learn a fantastic amount from somebody like Harry so it wouldn`t be a case of coming in with a defined role.

"If you had the freedom to come in to talk to Paul (Groves), Shaun (Brooks) and Tom (Mitchell) and to sit down with myself and Max (Demin), we would perhaps assess a value to that and maybe sort something out with Harry. It is not an unrealistic possibility...'

...careful what you wish for EM?

...be difficult to dislodge Tom as Director of football given his experience advantage over Harry!

"I think if Lionel Messi was available and wanted to join the club in some capacity, it would be very difficult to say no". - next story

People complain that they don't think he shows enough ambition, yet they then slate him for being ambitious. Whether it's a realistic ambition, or not, is not the point here. I'm sure he knows Harry, or has contacts who know him, due to his Sandbanks connections, so why not?

As for the Lionel Messi comment, well I'm sure we could add any name to a comment with those words and still look stupid. The only saying that I think is applicable to Mitchell's hopes of ever being thanked, or even accepted, is 'damned if you do, damned if you don't.

^he'll never say or do anything right with our fans, but i for one dont think it could harm us possibly having someone like redders who has spoken affectionately about the club not so long ago........

It is about realistic ambition, because your reputation is based on achieving those ambitions. Stating what you would want in an ideal world is ok, but when you are visible to thousands of passionate fans we need realism and honesty. We might be football fans but we are not stupid and a lot of us are business people too. Essentially what he's running is a family business, Tom Lovell would not be working in football at that level anywhere else.
