Groves: Good deal all round

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves believes the swap deal with Millwall involving Scott Malone and Josh McQuoid was a 'good deal all round'.

Scott Malone initially joined AFC Bournemouth on loan from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2011.

After impressing during his six month loan spell, the Cherries moved to sign the left back/winger permanently in January 2012.

It was reported that the fee agreed was in the region of £150,000, while Malone agreed a three and a half year contract to stay at Dean Court until the summer of 2015.

He made 37 appearances for the Cherries in total scoring 6 goals and impressed Millwall manager Kenny Jackett who first approached the Cherries in April regarding a possible transfer.

Previous reports suggested that the deal could be worth in the region of £750,000, with Josh McQuoid, who initially moved to Millwall 18 months ago for a figure of around £515,000 returning to the Cherries as part of the deal.

Cherries manager Paul Groves believes that with Scott Malone behind Charlie Daniels in the pecking order at left back, while competing with Marc Pugh and Donal McDermott at left wing, the deal to bring McQuoid in enhances the squad.

Groves told the Daily Echo...

'...When you look at the squad and the dynamics of it, you look at every area you can improve. We felt Scott played in an area that had good competition and felt bringing in Josh would enhance us in a different area. It will enable us to change things and manoeuvre.

"There has been no falling out with Scott and he is going to a Championship club. We are bringing in a player who scores goals and a player who will give us competition for places in wide areas and in forward positions because he is versatile.

"It enables us to change the dynamics of the group and enables us to bring in someone who is familiar with the club. Josh is also an international and we felt it was a good deal all round...'

Sounds like good business to me, allegedly, Malone was part of a drink culture at the Club, there is good cover for him and as we know McQuoid is a goal scorer at this level and has pace. A winning team is all about getting players who contribute to a team and where the sum of the whole is better than that of the individual. It will be interesting to see whether Paul Groves can build a team.

Bournemouth sign Mcquoid from youth (I believe). Bournemouth sell Mcquiod to Millwall for £550,000. Bournemouth sign Malone for £150,000. Bournemouth sell Malone to Millwall for £750,000 + Mcquoid. Thats the best bit of buisness I have ever seen!! Well done Groves. Also I would like to add, that Kenny Jacket is quite obviously an idiot. I would be a bit wound up if I was a Millwall fan!

Hopefully we dont have to give much to wolves ( say around 250k) and we have 500k to spend from player sales. hopefully we don't have to sell again and we can start building around the team we've got.

It says the deal is worth £750,000 so i assume it means Mcquiod (worth £500,000) + £250,000. Still a great deal imo.

I am sure some recognition must go to the mitchells as well as they must have been involved somewhere, but looks a good deal for the club.

Wish they'd come clean and tell us the real numbers rather than letting us all speculate, but on the face of it seems a good bit of business.

This is a good deal. Whatever the sums are. Just need to offload a couple more and replace with a good defensive midfielder and possibly a right winger and we're looking good. UTC...
