Mitchell: Tubbs is not for sale

League Two side Rotherham United are set to make another move for Cherries striker Matt Tubbs.

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans previously worked with Tubbs at Crawley Town and was still manager at the League Two side when the Cherries successfully signed him for a record fee in January.

Rotherham's offer was a 'significant six figure bid' which would have broken Rotherham United's own transfer record, it has been reported as in the region of £200,000, but was rejected by Cherries director Tom Mitchell.

Rotherham's The Star newspaper have reported that the Millers 'are pondering a further bid for goalscorer Matt Tubbs as manager Steve Evans prepares to smash the club`s transfer record'.

Speaking about the bid, AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

"We don`t want to sell Matt. Steve Evans knows him well and knows he has got goals in him, otherwise he wouldn`t want him.

"I am not surprised about the interest but we want those goals and I think Matt will turn out to be a really big favourite at the club. He was unfortunate with his injury at the end of the season but, if he and Charlie Sheringham hadn`t got injured, I think we would have had a few more goals in us.

"There is no pressure on us to sell so, if we are trying to establish ourselves in this division or go up, then there is no point in selling unless a player doesn`t suit. At this moment in time, Matt suits our agenda."

£200k can't see the Club accepting that sort of loss, they would at least want their money back or someone (Tom Mitchell ? ) would have egg all over his face.
