Mitchell: I have no great vocabulary

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has stated that he was unaware that he was on live radio when he was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live on Saturday evening.

Mitchell was interviewed by 606 presenter Mark Chapman following reports of Irena Demin, wife of Cherries co-owner Maxim Demin, speaking to the players in the dressing room during the half time interval of the game against Franchise.

The Cherries had already been branded a 'laughing stock' by Radio Solent summariser Dave Merrington, while the Telegraph wrote that the incident 'invited national ridicule', with various pundits critical of interference in the dressing room on a match day.

Mitchell was quick to point out that reports that it was a team talk were incorrect, but his interview was eventually cut short after the use of bad language.

Mitchell later issued a statement for his language which read...

'I apologise for my language on BBC Radio 5 live today. I am a passionate man and unfortunately that manifested itself in the language I used during the interview. I deeply regret any offence caused to younger listeners.'

Mitchell, who again stated that he wouldn't have wanted to offend listeners, told the Daily Echo on Sunday...

'...I have no great vocabulary, I wasn`t particularly well educated and I have no long words to belittle people with.

"If I am challenged when I don`t really know that we were live on radio, then my answer is my answer.

"I was being driven along in a car, the phone went, it was a blocked number and I answered it. I didn`t know who it was and somebody said a name, I didn`t know it was Radio 5 live and he asked me some stupid question. I wasn`t really expecting a call...'
