Work on training pitches restarts

After a brief pause, work on AFC Bournemouth's new training pitches in King's Park has restarted.

Site clearance for the development of two full size professional training pitches, as well as two smaller all-weather pitches began days after the proposals were given approval by the council in January.

However work was briefly halted last week after the council took AFC Bournemouth and Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell's Seven Developments to Bournemouth Crown Court, after work began on site without the approval of the Environment Agency, who had been set to complete a report on the former landfill site.

The Daily Echo on Saturday reported that if AFC Bournemouth and Seven Developments 'breach the agreement to wait until April 17' (when the Environment Agency was reportedly set to complete its report), then AFCB and Seven Developments will be in contempt of court and would face fines.

But a statement on afcb.co.uk on Tuesday afternoon read...

'the issue has been resolved and all pre-planning conditions were approved by the council and Environment Agency yesterday.'

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell told afcb.co.uk...

'It certainly is good news that we can build on the work we've done so far, from the start we've said we wanted to have it ready for pre-season and this will help us stay on track,'

'The pitches are shaping up well at the moment but there's a long way to go. We are determined to have a top-class facility that will play an important part in our plans for the coming years, and I'm sure that's what we will deliver.

'We have always worked well with the council and that won't change. As we continue to grow and develop we will need its support and they know we have the best interests of the public and the town at heart...'
