Mitchell: We don`t want to break up the squad

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has insisted that the club will no longer be bullied in the transfer market.

While the Cherries beginning negotiations with the six out of contract players (Steve Lovell, Danny Hollands, Mathieu Baudry, Ben Williamson, Dan Thomas and Tim Stephenson), AFC Bournemouth will also continue talks with Tottenham's Adam Smith and Manchester City's Donal McDermott in a bid to sign them permanently after enjoying loan spells at Dean Court this season.

However AFC Bournemouth supporters will also hope that the Cherries can keep hold of the rest of the squad.

This season the Cherries sold Brett Pitman to Bristol City, Josh McQuoid to Millwall and Marvin Bartley to Burnley, while Rhoys Wiggins was also heavily linked with a move to Watford before the Cherries rejected his transfer request.

Wiggins and Pugh have been linked with possible summer moves, but Mitchell insists clubs will have to make good offers to 'prise' the players away from Dean Court due to the Cherries stronger financial position.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

'...(the players) all did themselves a lot of credit this season and their stock will have risen. That is a good thing for the club because, if any were to be prised away, then people would have to pay for them. But they would take some prising because we don`t want to break up the squad and don`t have to...'

'...Our financial situation is a lot better (than 12 months ago) and we wouldn`t be looking at the possibility of buying players if we weren`t in a healthy position.

"The club is 10 times better than it was last season and that`s why it will be easier for us to hold on to our contracted players rather than be bullied."
