Wiggins set to miss Palace pre-season

Former loan star Rhoys Wiggins will miss the beginning of pre-season following an operation on his knee.

Wiggins is out of contract at Crystal Palace over the summer and is thought to still be a target for Cherries manager Eddie Howe, who brought him to the club in January.

Palace have offered him a contract extension, but the former Wales Under 21's International is yet to sign a new deal.

Due to Wiggins being under the age of 24, if Wiggins did opt to leave Palace and join the Cherries, the two clubs would have to agree a fee or the move would go to a tribunial to set a fee.

Crystal Palace physio Nigel Cox told the South London Press...

'We hope to have him back fit some way into pre-season. It's nothing to do with his old injury although it happens to be on the same knee.

'In his final game on loan at Bournemouth on the final day of the season he got involved in a couple of big tackles and it's caused a little bit of damage to the cartilage which covers one of the bones on the knee.'

'His contractual position is an aside, we would have looked after him even if he hadn't been offered anything. I always feel I have a duty to care for all our players and make sure they get the rehab they need until they are playing again...'
