Eddie Mitchell set to step down at Dorchester

Dorchester Town majority shareholder Eddie Mitchell could be set to step down as Chairman of the Dorset club, increasing speculation that he is involved in the takeover of AFC Bournemouth.

Mitchell first showed an interest in AFC Bournemouth in February 2008 when the club was initially put into administration.

His interest in the club appeared to end in April 2008, when the consortium Mitchell was involved with (which included former Cherries Chairman Jeff Mostyn) initially lost out to the consortium which at the time was led by Marc Jackson.

Once Jackson had his involvement ended, it was revealed the bid was from EU UK Ltd, a company led by Ian Mathison.

However that group during the many twists and turns of the administration takeover saga eventually missed out on owning AFC Bournemouth. With the eventual winners being Paul Baker with Sport-6.

14 months later, in what could be the final twist in the AFC Bournemouth pantomime, the Echo reported that Baker was initially on the verge of selling to a consortium which included Scottish businessman Ian Mathison, who was one of four directors of EU UK Limited, but this time roles have been reversed with the Consortium involving Mitchell and Mostyn coming in and winning the battle.

If speculation that Eddie Mitchell is involved in the takeover of the Cherries is true, the Daily Echo believes that Mitchell would have to relinquish his position as the Magpies chairman due to a conflict of interests.

However they believe he could continue to give financial backing to the club despite his involvement with AFC Bournemouth.
